Black Streaks, Chalky Sidewalls, and a Roof Nobody's Looked At

Utah is hard on an RV — thin-air UV, dust, and six months parked. We detail motorhomes, fifth wheels, and travel trailers at your driveway or your storage lot. Priced by the foot, so you can work out your own rig before you call.

Why Utah RVs Age Fast

Four Things Working on Your Rig Right Now

Black streaks

Roof runoff. Rain carries degraded roof material down the sidewalls and leaves vertical stains that washing won't lift once they've set — and they come back every storm until the roof itself is dealt with.

The roof nobody checks

RV roofs chalk under UV and almost nobody climbs up to look. It's the most neglected surface on the rig — and the chalk it sheds is what streaks your sidewalls every time it rains.

High-altitude sun

UV climbs roughly 10–12% per 1,000 meters. Utah's valleys start at 4,500 ft. Decals and graphics fade, clear coat chalks, and sealant around seams dries out faster than the manufacturer planned for.

Six months in storage

Most Utah RVs sit from October to April, usually outdoors and often uncovered. Dust settles, seals dry, and whatever was on the roof in the fall is still working away all winter.

Black streak removal is a separate add-on

Set-in streaks need chemical treatment beyond a normal wash — up to $6/ft on top depending on severity. Worth pairing with a roof wash, since the chalky residue up there is what's running down the sides in the first place.

To be clear about what we do: we wash roofs. We don't reseal, recoat, or repair them. If your membrane is failing or seams need sealant, that's an RV service centre's job and we'll tell you so rather than take the money.

Make It Last

Ceramic Coating for RVs

The same CCi high-end professional coating we run on boats and cars. On an RV it's genuinely transformative, because the surface area you're washing is enormous and anything that makes water sheet off saves real hours.

It also holds up better on an RV than on a boat. The identical coating runs 12–18 months on a hull sitting in mineral-heavy water, and considerably longer on a rig that lives on land. Same product, easier life.

Applied after correction — coating over chalky, oxidized sidewalls just seals the problem in for the duration.

Questions

RV Detailing FAQ

What actually causes black streaks?

Roof runoff. Your roof membrane degrades under UV and sheds a chalky residue; rain carries it down the sidewalls and it stains. That's why streaks always run vertically from the roofline, and why they come back after every storm no matter how often you wash the sides.

Cleaning the streaks without washing the roof is temporary — you're treating the symptom while the source keeps producing more. Doing both together is what actually holds through a season.

Do you repair or reseal RV roofs?

No. We wash roofs — that removes the chalky oxidation causing your streaks — but we don't recoat, reseal, or repair membranes or seams. That's specialist work and an RV service centre should do it. If we're up there and see a seam or a soft spot that needs attention, we'll tell you.

Do you come to storage lots?

Yes — that's where most of the RVs we service live. We bring our own water and power and don't need you present, just access to the rig. We'll send photos when it's done.

When should I book?

Before storage, if you only do one. Whatever's on the roof and sidewalls in October sits there until spring, and that's when most of the damage happens. A spring detail cleans up a rig that's already been hurt; a fall detail prevents it.

My sidewalls are chalky. Is that fixable?

Usually. Chalking is oxidation, and it compounds out the same way it does on a boat hull — one step for light, two or three for heavy. Send photos and we'll tell you which you're looking at before you commit.

Do you do trailers and fifth wheels too?

Motorhomes, fifth wheels, travel trailers, toy haulers. Same per-foot pricing, measured on actual length.

Can you do the RV and the truck together?

Yes, and it's the same logic as our Full Rig package for boats — we're already on site with water and power, so the tow vehicle is priced as an add-on rather than a second job. Ask when you get quoted.
